Google is bringing back its blob emoji — in Allo
This is why we can't have nice emoji.
Google has decided to revive its "blob" emoji in the form of a sticker pack for its messaging app Allo.
SEE ALSO:New Apple emoji include Woman With Headscarf, Breastfeeding, Zombie, and moreA quick refresher: Google revealed earlier this year that it will introduce completely redesigned emoji as part of the upcoming Android O update. The new characters look much more like the modern emoji on iOS and other platforms, as opposed to those shapeless yellow lumps with indecipherable expressions that make you 😬 .
But, of course, because people hate change and love complaining, the redesigned characters have been controversial to some. So, to mark World Emoji Day, Google released an animated sticker pack for Allo featuring — you guessed it — the blobs.
The sticker pack only includes a handful of the more popular characters, including the crying face, hearts, clapping hands and, yes, the poop.
Oh, there's also an eggplant emoji, which looks extra inappropriate with the new animations.

The stickers might satisfy the holdouts who for some reason prefer the flat blobby look of Google's old emoji. But they also raise the question of why Google decided it was worth bringing back the blobs (and writing a ridiculous "breakup letter" to them) in the first place — especially considering that Google's Android fragmentation problem is so bad that most Android users are probably going to be stuck with the blobs for the foreseeable future anyway.
