Intense video shows a vape exploding inside a dude's pocket
CCTV footage captured the moment an e-cigarette battery exploded inside a man's pocket, causing severe burns to his abdomen and hand.
Amone Britel was standing outside of a nightclub he owns in Toulouse, France, when the battery in his vape started shooting sparks out of his jacket pocket.
In a translated interview with French news outlet Ladepeche, Britel explained what he experienced when the explosion occurred.
"Suddenly I heard a noise like sparkler, but 10 times more powerful. And after the shock of the explosion, I realized that I had caught fire."
After the explosion, firefighters brought Britel to the emergency room where he was treated for his wounds. Britel suffered burns to the side of his abdomen as well as his fingers. In the clip you can even see that a part of Britel's coat was melted to his finger as he attempted to remove the device from his pocket.
Although it's still unclear what caused the malfunction, Britel believes that the battery made contact with coins in his pocket, which shorted the circuit and triggered the explosion.
Britel says he purchased the Chinese battery from a local shop in Toulouse. He plans to sue the manufacturer of the battery, although its name was not released.
This isn't the first time a vape battery has exploded in someone's pocket. In fact, the incident has become so common that the U.S. issued a ban on e-cigarettes on checked bags on flights in 2015.
